I’m gonna attempt to summarize what my feelings are about WWDC 2024. My biggest takeaways from the event are that they blasted through all of their OS announcements. Every single OS was announced in under 10 to 15 minutes apiece in some cases closer to five minutes. These are the entire reason for being at WWDC. It is a developers conference, not a hardware event not a flashy sales event. This is meant to make developers want to develop for the latest operating system, and in the first half hour of this presentation, they only hit on a few things that seemed compelling at all.

In a complete reversal, however they spent over an hour talking about AI or their new apple intelligence. This thing is baked into everything. This could make Siri a game changer all over again.

I am going to attempt to download an install the developer beta this evening. If I can once I have, of course gotten some full back ups of everything. I’ll see if I can use it and get a handle of it and understand it better and write more about it once I’ve done that, but I think it is interesting that Apple Has put the effort and the branding around their own intelligence and I suppose it’s not surprising but the level to which they went to even beyond what I thought they would do.

I would be remiss if I did not state that I do believe what Apple are doing, and moving into is the right pathway, I have serious misgiving about some of the directions they’re going into with the inclusion of generative AI as a method for generating imagery and stickers and emoji instantly. I feel that this will eventually erode our creativity while communicating.

I do not want to be a person who feels that AI is here to take over the world. I don’t want to be alarmist. I don’t think AI will take over the world, but I do believe in the next 5 to 10 years AI can and probably will handicap be greater creativity of humanity because it is simply easier to tell somebody else to make something that it is to go through the effort of doing it yourself.
