A Weekend of Joy

Part 2: Discovering Greenville, SC

While my experience at the conference didn’t meet expectations, our trip to Greenville itself was a definite highlight. This was my first time really exploring the town, and it did not disappoint! Greenville is a fun, and inviting city with lots to do on foot.

it’s always about the food

the food is one of the things I always go to places hoping to find something new, greenville did not disappoint. On the last day there, we went to a place called comol 864 which was super delicious. Its a funky mexican place that is just packed with flavor.

earlier in the week, I got to have a Bacon Pimento Burger at the bohemian cafe. This place is neat, the service is fast, and the food is pretty good. the best of all, it shares the building with a record store called horizon records where I was able to get my hands on the latest Bonny light horseman album keep me on your mind.

Stone avenue also has a wonderful brewery called liability brewing, and while I didn’t get to go to the actual brewery, the conference did have an “on-tap” event where they had several different beers from this place and all of them were exceptionally good. The fereal garden gnome was my favorite of theirs. It has a nice floral nose to it and is very smooth. I highly recommend it.

it’s a Walking around town

In the evenings, Erika and I would Walk around the town and check out all of the local shops and the little parks and the different restaurants the buskers, and all the people who were walking up and down this road. They have a neat set of mouse sculptures. It’s actually a scavenger hunt called mice on main that they have developed and you find the little mouse statues all around Main Street in Greenville. I really need idea.

There are tons of little pockets of art and sculptures and planner boxes and just a lovely field of a small town, which is really not that small.

Trails, Parks, and the Outdoors

Greenville’s outdoor sceene is really the gem of the town. the waterfall through the middle of downtown, the trails, the parks, The town is filled with scenic trails and well-maintained parks. Keep in mind, hurricane helene just tore through this area barely a month ago, and while the town was cleaned up from the damage, there were still signs of that damage everywhere we went. Trees snapped in half, debris piled up on the roads and sidewalks to be picked up. I fear it will be many more months before all of that is cleaned.

We took full advantage of the outdoor spaces and spent time wandering the swamp rabbit trail and soaking in the fresh air. Falls Park on the Reedy was a highlight—a beautiful blend of nature and city life, with great views and a relaxing atmosphere.

Saturday Morning Market

The Saturday morning market in downtown Greenville was great. Local vendors filled the streets with fresh produce, handmade goods, and crafts, creating a busy but fun atmosphere. Walking through the market, and stopping at the bookstore was a treat, I found some interesting cooking books and these fun stickers:

Greenville exceeded my expectations away from the conference. it was a fun town and I want to come back to try more things. I don’t think I got my feel of their culinary scene just yet, I still have more I want to do.
